Award winning choir is frontastic again!
FRONMANIA looks set to continue with the news that the Fron Male Voice Choir has been nominated for a Classical Brit Award for the second year running.
The 70 strong choir and their conductress Ann Atkinson have been shortlisted from the award for their second album Voices of the Valley: Encore.
Last year the choir were up for an award but missed out to Beatles star Paul McArtnery's album Ecce Cor Meum.
This year the boys, who have an combined age of 3,976, are up against a strong field of nine other albums including those by Alfie Boe, Hayley Westenra, Natasha Marsh and The Royal Scots Dragoon Guards.
Unlike last year's line up, in 2008 The Fron Choir are the only Welsh nominees.
Dave Jones of the Fron Choir expressed their joy at being nominated again this year.
"It's a great surprise, and we're very honoured to be nominated again this year with our second album," he said.
"This journey for us just gets better and better – recording albums, having such positive feedback from fans, going on tour across the UK and now flying the flag for Wales at the Classical Brit Awards. We're all very proud and absolutely delighted!"
Music svengali Daniel Glatman, who has managed the choir since coming across them at a wedding in 2005, said: "What started off as a dream – a dream most people said could never be achieved - of making a Welsh Male Voice choir into a household name and turning them into successful recording artists has happened.
"Their meteoric rise to fame is beyond anything we could have imagined – the fastest selling classical artists of 2006, selling a million albums to date, a Hollywood film in development and now a second Classical Brit award nomination. The amazing story about these truly wonderful men and their conductress continues!"
The nominations for The Classical Brit Awards 2008 were unveiled on March 6 and the category of NS&I's Album of the Year is the only one to be chosen by public vote.
