Phoebe's circuit to fitness: week four

AT some time or another we can all be accused of dragging out feet.

But at this week's circuit training classes I soon realised I was - quite literally - doing just that.

Starting out on the slalom I'm feeling nice and warm, courtesy of the five minutes of walking and jogging, but as soon as I start running I feel a really heavy sensation in my legs.

I soldier on to the star jumps but cannot seem to shake of the dull ache I'm feeling.

When it comes to the press-ups I'm feeling great again and put the earlier pain down to tiredness and move on to the squat thrusts thinking no more about it. Until I start trying to skip.

More than tired I'm finding it an effort to lift my legs up and can't wait to get back to the mat-based exercises and give my legs a rest.

By the time I reach the sprint station, Noelle has clocked me and tells me to take it down to a walk.

After the class she recommends that I don't come to the next session and give my legs a rest, but after having my vital stats printed in last week's column, added to the fact that I'm the world's worst person for keeping up momentum, I turn up on Thursday determined to do my best.

Feeling a little ashamed as I fast walk through the slalom while everyone else sprints past me, Noelle tells me that I'm only experiencing a blip and I mustn't let it get to me. She customises a few of the impact exercises for me so that I don't injure myself and I carry on.

I've been instructed to consider buying new trainers and keep stretching my legs every day.

With any luck I'll be sprinting again before long.
