LAST year Sheffield indie dance outfit Reverend and The Makers were playing to tens of thousands of fans.

Now they've gone from Wembley to Wrexham - and insist it will be a far better crowd.

The band, fronted by Reverend Jon McClure, is coming to Central Station, Wrexham on March 11 as part of a tour with a difference.

Since the first single Heavyweight Champion of the World, released in 2007, the band has been synonymous with singing about working class life and the strife of 'mortgages and 'lecky' bills.'

But unlike other northern bands who now have closer affinities with the Primrose Hill set rather than their hometown, the reverend Jon is practicing what he preaches.

Jon said: "We are not playing safe, the whole idea of this tour is to play places not well known and in small towns."

This could be a shock to the band after supporting Oasis last year on their largest, and last, stadium tour in the UK and Ireland, but Jon thinks otherwise.

"If you think, people who really dig our music might live in Wrexham so it's good to go and play for these people."

The singer said he is really excited to get to grips with these smaller venues and more intimate audiences and said people will appreciate it as they don't often get established acts passing through.

"It will be fun, I have been quite political lately so it's time to start relaxing."

Gig goers may have been elated to see the band haven't added on extortionate ticket prices after tasting success in the last three years.

Tickets for the Wrexham gig are £12 and Jon said he deliberately keeps the ticket prices low.

The Makers came together in 2005 to form the band and former Arctic Monkeys bass player Andy Nicholson now joins the line-up. He will play on this tour, unlike the Monkeys' north American tour in 2006 which led to Andy's ousting.

But ladies, don't get too excited. Jon's wife Laura isn't far behind because she is one of the lead musicians, so expect this tour to be less of the sex and more about the rock 'n' roll.

Reverend and The Makers will be appearing at Central Station, Wrexham on March 11.
