THE weather at Llyn Brenig was bright and calm all week, writes fish farm ranger Jack Finney.

The temperature has now started to increase and with it has brought the season’s first insect hatches consisting mainly of midges and buzzers.

Hotspots for the week have mainly been around tower bay and the quarry area, with fish also being caught the length of Hafod Lom woods; the dam wall down past the visitor centre and around into the sailing club bay also produced fish last week.

Top flies and tactics for the week were intermediate and fast sink lines fished slowly with boobies and nymphs.

The majority of the fish have been picked up around four to five feet in depth and mainly on boobies.

However cruncher and pheasant tail nymphs have also been successful towards the more vegetated areas such as Hafod Lom woods.

We have noticed within the past couple of days the number of small perch fry increasing and are sure the trout will be feeding on these as they increase over the next couple of weeks.

Top flies for the week include boobies of all styles.

Nymphs have been successful throughout the week, including some small buzzers of numerous styles (mainly black).

The biggest bag this week goes to Mr Barber of Llandudno at 13lb 4oz and the biggest fish went to Wirral Game member Mr Jones, weighing in at 3lb 8oz.

It has been nice to see you all back this season, including some new faces.
