A LLANDUDNO hotel has bagged a tea-riffic award in recognition of its world class cuppa.
The St Tudno Hotel on North Parade has been presented with an Award of Excellence in The Tea Guild’s new and highly coveted Top City and Country Hotel 2011 Awards.
The Top Tea Award, which is now in its 26th year, is considered to be the ‘Michelin star’ of the tea world and has the best tea venues in the UK competing for the coveted honour as recognition of their outstanding quality, and consistently high standards in tea service.
Irene Gorman, Head of The Tea Guild said: “These Awards of Excellence were presented in recognition of consistently high standards of tea making and customer service, evident in the care and attention to detail with which afternoon tea was prepared and served in all of the establishments.”
The anonymous judges awarded points for the variety, flavour and knowledge of the teas offered, together with the quality of food, service, décor, ambience, and presentation.
Owner of the St Tudno Hotel, Martin Bland, was thrilled with the award.
He said: “I’m very proud indeed. It’s lovely to be recognised.
“There’s quite a strict criteria. It's all about the presentation, the crockery, the cutlery, and at the heart of it having the selection of teas.
“Doris Roberts is our afternoon tea lady and is absolutely instrumental in it all. She goes that little bit extra, and makes sure all the sandwiches are seasoned.
“She takes a lot of pride and loves doing it.”
