Nick Bourne AM

WELSH Conservative leader Nick Bourne has lost his Assembly seat.

The long-time AM's party's successes elsewhere meant Bourne lost his seat, despite the Tories polling 25.1% of the vote on the Mid and West Wales list.

Ironically the Tories increases their vote by 2.2%, and polled the second highest number of votes - but the regional system conspired against Mr Bourne

Labour, with 22.5%, gained two AMs - Joyce Watson and Rebecca Evans, while the Lib Dems picked up one, William Powell, and Plaid one, Simon Thomas.

The Liberal Democrats and Plaid Cymru polled 12.7% and 26.7% respectively.

Elsewhere, former Plaid Cymru regional AM Nerys Evans also lost out in a tough three-way battle - she finished third in Carmarthen West & Pembrokeshire South. She polled 8,373, narrowly beaten by incumbent Tory candidate Angela Burns (10,095) and Labour's Christine Gwyther (8,591)

With nine constituencies still to declare, the overall picture remains on a knife edge. Currently Labour has 25 seats, the Conservatives 6, Plaid 5 and there are three Lib Dem AMs. However 21 seats are still to be decided.

Brilliant news! I was never a fan of him. As an elected AM representative for mid and west Wales, he has done nothing here in Powys, where he was elected. Bye bye Bourne.
