MOTORISTS were caught in mile long tailbacks on Tuesday morning when a campervan burst into flames on the A55.

Both lanes were closed after the vehicles broke down on the Conwy side of the tunnel just after 10am, before a fire broke out releasing thick plumes of black smoke.

Firefighters from Colwyn Bay and Llanfairfechan rushed to the scene to douse the flames and cool a gas canister in the vehicle.

No one is reported to have been injured.
