NEWTOWN manager Bernard McNally has launched his Robins revolution with two new signings and with a promise of more to come.
McNally has made two additions to his squad with ex-Welshpool and Caersws defender Kevin Davies arriving from Carmarthen Town, while former Bridgnorth Town striker Anwar Drugbon has also agreed terms after impressing in trials.
The former AFC Telford manager will look to further strengthen his squad ahead of this weekend’s friendly at Huws Gray Alliance side, Ruthin Town.
“Kevin is a versatile defender who has played in the Welsh Premier,” said McNally. “Anwar has pace to burn and at the moment he is raw potential, but he has impressed in training and myself and assistant Peter Carter feel he could make an impact.
“I am very pleased with the way things have gone so far,” said McNally. “The majority of last season’s squad have signed up for next season and I hope to bring the number of players at Newtown up to 12 this week.”
Defender Kieron Mills-Evans heads the Robins’ wanted list, with the teenager currently training at Latham Park with a view to signing, following his release from Npower League Two side Shrewsbury Town, at the end of last season.
“Nothing has been agreed with Kieron as yet,” admitted McNally. “We are keen to expand our squad ahead of the Ruthin game and will be speaking to Kieron in the build-up to that match.”
Crickhowell-based goalkeeper Nick Thomas is also in training with the Robins, following his release by Hartlepool United in the summer.
The Robins have retained the services of captain Adam Worton and player of the season Shane Sutton, while Matthew Cook, Robbie Millington, Josh Evans and Lee Hartshorn have also signed on.
“Training has been good,” said McNally. “It is great news that a majority of last season’s squad have agreed to stay, while we are now working hard to strengthen.
“It is important that we try and bring in the right kind of player for Newtown and hopefully we will be able to bring in another two by the weekend.”
