THE Environment Agency is warning of potential flooding in parts of Wales as bands of heavy rain are forecast to continue through Monday and into the early hours of Tuesday.
The rain is forecast as hitting areas of south and west Wales first, and moving slowly north east during Monday with the potential for some heavy localised downpours.
The main concern is for drainage systems being unable to cope with the rainfall forecast by the Met Office, which could cause some localised flooding and surface water on roads.
Some streams and rivers that are quick to respond to rainfall could also cause flooding if affected by the heavy downpours.
Officers will be monitoring river levels as they could respond if the rainfall continues, and Flood Alerts and potentially Flood Warnings may be issued.
Low lying agricultural land and some roads may be affected and the Agency is advising people in rural areas to take precautions.
Care should also be taken while driving as conditions may be hazardous.
