Wales Rugby League have launched a novel fundraising initiative in partnership with Nightingale House Hospice where companies have the chance to appear on the front of the National shirt when Wales take on Australia in the final 4 Nations match to be played at the Glyndwr Racecourse Ground, Wrexham on Sunday 13th November.
Companies will be able be given a once in a lifetime opportunity to purchase “raffle” tickets at £250 each and the lucky winner will appear on the front of the Wales Shirt for this prestigious fixture against the former World Champions which will be televise live on Sky TV to a World audience.
Mark Rowley, Chairman of Wales Rugby League said:
“This is the second year that Nightingale House Hospice has been chosen as Wales Rugby League’s Official Charity and we are only too please to be able to help raise much needed funds for a charity that provides such a valuable service in the community.
“This idea is not entirely new. Barcelona teamed up with UNICEF in a similar type of exercise. We must always remember, that even and especially in these difficult economic times the community is still the heartbeat that drives interest in our sport and the huge increase in numbers playing rugby league across the whole of Wales has been down to hard work within these communities. As a governing body we recognise that, and when this idea was initially discussed we felt that it was the right decision for us to do our part to give back to the community something in appreciation of the hard work they have put in.
“We have increased our commercial sponsorships significantly over the last 12 months and Wales Rugby League now has a number of long terms partnerships which will enable us grow the sport further. Increasing our commercial revenue year on year is extremely important to the future of the sport but we must never lose sight of the bigger picture, because without the goodwill of those who give up their valuable time then Rugby League in Wales will not prosper.”
Caroline Siddall, Nightingales House Director of Sponsorship said “we are thrilled and honoured that once again Wales Rugby League has chosen the hospice as their official charity partner. The idea of a shirt raffle is very exciting as it gives our supporters a fantastic opportunity to support both the local community and a national sport, the winner will also get worldwide coverage via the televised match being shown on Sky Sports.
