RHYL Silver Band have hit the right notes to be crowned returning champions at a prestigious competition.
The town band travelled to Llandudno over the weekend to compete in the North Wales Brass Bands Rally at Venue Cymru, where they were up against five other acclaimed bands from the region.
Band member, Roger Burman, said: "Thanks to the new musical director the band has really built up. Last year we did have to borrow some players, but everyone was a signed member this year, but the pressure was still on.
"Because we won last year, I think everyone was out to get us. I listened to some of the others and I thought 'blimey, this is going to be close'."
The group performed one piece in three parts called Partita by Edward Gregson, which impressed the judges and saw the band retain the championship cup for their section.
“To win and retain our championship was fantastic,” said Roger. “Even after celebrating at the bands club into the early hours of Sunday we were proud to lead the march to the cenotaph for the remembrance day parade in Rhyl.”
