BALLET aficionados will be enjoying an early Christmas present this month when The Sleeping Beauty is beamed live into a Rhyl cinema.
The Royal Ballet will be presenting Tchaikovsky's beloved score, which will be brought to life by two of the company's most popular dancers: Lauren Cuthbertson and Sergei Polunin in this traditional, classic ballet.
The famous story follows Princess Aurora who is cursed at her christening by the evil fairy Carabosse and fated to die after pricking her finger on a spindle at her 16th birthday celebration.
But after the Lilac Fairy intervenes, the curse of death is changed to a long sleep - one from which Princess Aurora is awakened 100 years later by a kiss from Prince Florimund.
Visually stunning, the timeless ruins and shadowy, creeping trees contrast with the sumptuous gilt of the Royal court in this production filled with romance and dark enchantment.
Cuthbertson and Polunin have both gained critical acclaim for their performances.
Winner of the 2010 Critics' Circle Award for Best Male Performance, Sergei is the youngest principal dancer at just 21 - known for his giant leaps and dazzling stage presence.
And Lauren is the top British ballerina on stage at the moment, having enjoyed a stella season taking the titular role in Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and dancing in front of 10,000 people as Juliet at the O2 arena.
With its impressive sets, exquisite costumes and elaborate stage effects, The Sleeping Beauty is sure to be a night no ballet fan can afford to miss.
