A RHYL athlete will represent Wales this weekend just a little over a year since she took up distance running.
Katie Parry, aged 24, has been called up to the Wales senior ladies’ team for this Sunday’s Lotto Cup international in Brussels, an annual event which attracts many of the world’s biggest names.
Katie, pictured right, has made significant strides over the last year, picking up a number of medals in events over the last 12 months.
Katie, who attended Ysgol Brynhedydd and Rhyl High School, was a junior member of Prestatyn Running Club, and originally focussed on hurdling, earning a Welsh vest in the 400 metre hurdles.
“I would like to thank the clubs and coaches that have supported me over the years and my involvement nin the sport enjoyable,” she said.
“Most importantly, I cannot thank my family enough for supporting me financially and with their time. My enjoyment of the sport and my success is solely down to them.”
The daughter of Alun and Elaine Parry, of Maes Hedydd, Rhyl, Katie studied at Leeds Metropolitan University and now works as a sports co-ordinator at Leeds City University, running for Leeds City AC
