ONE avenue of silverware remains open for in-form Ruthin Town.

Steve Crompton’s charges extended their unbeaten run to four matches as they came from behind to dump holders Rhos Aelwyd out of this season’s North East Wales FA Challenge Cup.

Team boss Crompton made the most of the weekend away from the pressure of the Cymru Alliance and he said: “What it did, it gave me the chance to try a few little things.

“We wanted to win the game and we had a few changes in the team.”

The main feature of the tie was the strong wind, which spoiled the contest as a spectacle.

Going into the tie boasting a three-game undefeated Cymru Alliance run, there was an initial shock for the hosts as Rhos Aelwyd claimed a 1-0 lead through Roy Cardus.

“They started quite brightly and we had to get to terms with the conditions,” added Crompton.

“They got to terms with them better than we did.

“Whatever we did we had to allow for the wind in everything.

“It took us a while to adapt.”

Ruthin levelled within a quarter-of-an-hour through teenage frontman Josh Davies and it was Davies on target again as Town went in front.

He was set up by a superb Jason Wood cross and Davies was in the right place to head in the vital second goal.

“It’s four games unbeaten and I keep making a little chalk mark on the board,” added Crompton.

“When we lose, which we will do, then we will start again.

“It’s about building confidence.”
