LLANGEFNI were unable to find a way past defending Huws Gray Cymru Alliance champions Gap Connah’s Quay, who ran out 3-0 winners at Lon Talwrn.

The visitors took control early on, with Gary O’Toole and Rob Jones testing Cefni keeper Luke Holden, but Cefni squandered a chance to go ahead when Kevin Garland somehow shot wide when clear in on goal.

Adie Jones’ men were organised in defence and managed to hold the visitors at bay, until centre back Lee Hughes tapped into his own net on the half hour.

The visitors made it 2-0 six minutes later, with some lovely passing setting up Craig Jones to shoot past Holden.

Garland missed a great chance to get Cefni back in the game shortly after the break, as Cefni kept their shape and battled hard.

Sion Owen and Luke O’Mahoney had chances for Cefni, but the home side were denied what seemed a blatant penalty on 75 minutes, when Connahs Quay keeper John Rushton misjudged the flight of Rory Courlander’s cross and knocked Garland out cold. However, the officials ignored Cefni’s claims for a spot kick.

Garland was treated by paramedics and and could make the trip to Buckley on Saturday (KO 2:30pm).

It was all over when Jamie Petrie got the visitors’ third with a close range finish late on.

The defeat leaves Cefni second bottom on nine points, five points adrift of third bottom Penycae.
