TRIBUTES have been paid to a pensioner who died days after her home was burgled.
Catherine Staniforth, 84, of Fron Park Road, Holywell, died on Sunday after suffering a heart attack.
She had been the victim of a break-in at her home on Thursday.
Mrs Staniforth, a former worker at Courtaulds factory in Greenfield, has been described as a well respected member of the community.
Friend Heulwen Williams said: “She always had time for other people and was very supportive. She was a very intelligent lady. This is very, very sad.”
Mrs Staniforth was a keen gardener and dancer.
Her husband, Charles, whom she was said to be devoted to, died a year ago.
A post-mortem has revealed her death was related to a heart attack.
North Wales Police are keen to stress that Mrs Staniforth was not physically confronted by the offender, who made off from the premises.
A neighbour who did not want to be named said: “She was a lovely person and was very strong. She would help anyone. We are shocked and concerned, this is very disturbing.”
Holywell councillor Gareth Roberts said: “She was a very nice person and very pleasant. Mrs Staniforth was very well regarded in the community.
“She is the type of person you would not expect to have an enemy in the world.”
A spokesman for North Wales Police said: “An investigation is ongoing and a family liaison officer has been appointed to work with the family.”
An inquest has been opened and adjourned by acting North East Wales Coroner John Gittins.
Anyone with information relating to the burglary on Thursday or any other burglaries in the Holywell area is urged to contact Mold CID on 101 or 0300 3300101.
