RHYL YOUTH 17
DINBYCH YOUTH 23
VALE of Clwyd bragging rights belong to Dinbych Youth following their victory over Rhyl.
Playing against the elements in the first half, Dinbych made an impressive start with their forwards dominating at the loose and set piece and controlling the territory.
Despite this early dominance it was Rhyl who opened the scoring after 15 minutes when their impressive right wing intercepted a pass following a blind side move by Dinbych scoring a converted try under the posts.
It wasn't long before Dinbych were on the scoreboard and following a number of short penalties and subsequent ruck, the backs moved the ball quickly for winger Gareth Howatson to outpace the defence from 30 meters to narrow the score to 7-5.
After this response Rhyl enjoyed their best period of the game pinning Dinbych in their own 22 and intelligently using the wind.
With Rhyl now in the ascendancy it was their right wing who scored another try, which was converted to put the hosts 14-5 up at the interval.
With the wind at their backs Dinbych were in no mood to capitulate and from the outset of the half, they put Rhyl under severe pressure with stand off Huw Alexander setting up good field positions and the forwards making good gains at the ruck and mauls.
It was only a question of time before Rhyl finally failed to defend their line when lock Rory Tolley crashed over from five metres out following a ruck.
With Huw Alexander converting, the game seemed to be moving Dinbych's way, but Rhyl quickly replied with a successful penalty.
With 20 minutes remaining and Rhyl still ahead, Dinbych kept to their game plan with some impressive gains by forwards Huw Roberts and Alex Usher.
The pressure told and when a ruck was formed 20 meters out centre Ayidn Jones crossed over for an unconverted try to level matters. Dinbych continued to press and the game was finally won when Huw Alexander landed two successful penalties following numerous penalties conceded by Rhyl.
