A HISTORIC bingo hall has been put up for sale.

Flint’s former Palace Bingo and Social Club, which closed suddenly in November after a drop in members, has gone on the market for a guide price of £250,000.

The Grade II-listed Church Street venue was originally built to house the Plaza cinema, but was used as a bingo hall for more than 30 years.

It is believed to be owned by Rhyl-based Parker’s Leisure Holdings.

Flint councillor Ian Roberts is very keen to see the building brought back into use.

“It is a very prominent building and it is the only building in Flint with a listed interior and exterior,” he said.

“Obviously buyers will need to work closely with officers to preserve its historic features.

“As with all listed buildings a purpose has to be found and I look forward to seeing the building in use once again.”

Estate agents Gareth Williams Commercial Property Consultants say the building could be used in its current form, converted for alternative leisure use or redeveloped.

The sales brochure describes the venue as “a traditional ex-cinema building latterly utilised as a bingo social club with a full inventory of trade fixtures and
equipment available if required”.

Spokesman Gareth Williams would not confirm whether there had been any interest but said: “The property is on the market and is available.”

Internal accommodation includes a 4,300sq ft lounge, bar, stage, cafeteria and balcony area.

One potential buyer could be pub chain JD Wetherspoon, who already have pubs in Holywell, Mold and Shotton.

Company spokesman Eddie Gershon said: “We have had great success with our pubs in Flintshire and Flint is definitely a town we are looking at.

“However, we do not comment on individual sites.”

Wetherspoon’s typically creates about 40 new jobs with every new pub that it opens

Why not look at restoring it back to it's original purpose and turn it back into a cinema? Yes it would only be able to have 1 screen within the space inside but considering that the nearest cinemas available to the local people are Chester, Wrexham, Cheshire Oaks, Rhyl (?) and Prestatyn(?), it would provide a 'cheaper' source of entertainment for those families who can't afford to take their children out of town all the time to the cinemas when they have to factor in buses / trains / taxis?

Couldnt agree more with littlegreen dragon reopening the cinema would be a real asset to the town , better than a meeting place for all the towns drinkers and druggies. The one in Wrexhams main street is a prime example of this .
