Cefn Druids are the pride of the Cymru Alliance after they toppled top flight Prestatyn 2-0 to book a place in the quarter-finals.

Defender Adam Hesp handed the Ancients a deserved advantage and Joe Price finished off the contest with a breakaway goal in the closing stages.

Few could argue against the fact that Druids with rightful winners and a trip to Aberystwyth awaits Griffiths' men.

Speaking about the victory, the ex-Chester City assistant said: "I am absolutely chuffed to bits.

"We deserved to win, we were the better side by a long shot and could have been two or three goals up in the first half.

"They didn't really test us, Chris Mullock had one shot to save. They had pressure towards the end but we coped with that.

"To be fair to Prestatyn, they were gracious and had few complaints with the outcome."

The Druids success was certainly no fluke with Griffiths working on tactics for the game in a training game against the club's reserve team.

"We wouldn't have won without the help of the reserves and it is great to see the club all pulling in the right direction," added Griffiths. "All of the players and staff were fantastic.

"We worked on matching Prestatyn in the middle of the pitch and stopping the supply to Steve Rogers, it worked really well.

"We also went with three in attack and I think it caught them by surprise and what surprised me was that they couldn't cope with us physically."

Griffiths also adopted Jose Mourinho-style mind games, confirming: "We played Mark Harris and Joe Price in attack but they were numbered two and three.

"From the numbers they probably thought we would play a 3-5-2 formation.”

Druids will take heart from the fact that Aberystwyth needed penalties to see off the challenge of Cymru Alliance outfit Llandudno.

A goal from 16-year-old Alex Samuels spared Aber’s blushes after Lee Jones had handed Llandudno a first half lead.

The two teams could not be separated in extra-time before Aber held their nerve to win the shoot-out 5-3.

Flint Town United were unable to secure a quarter-final tie with The New Saints as they were beaten 3-1 by Neath.

Craig Hughes broke the deadlock in the 15th minute for Neath before Chris Jones doubled the advantage.

Hughes then made it 3-0 within minutes of the restart, although Jon Rush pulled a goal back after good work from Shaun Beck.

When Neath had Matty Collins sent-off, Flint tasted a comeback, but Rush, Paul Williams and Stuart Hughes all missed chances to score.

Craig Harrison’s The New Saints were comfortable 4-0 victors over a weakened Newport County outfit.

Connell Rawlinson broke the deadlock before Alex Darlington converted a Craig Jones pass to double the advantage just four minutes later.

Greg Draper struck a 25-yard volley to increased the hosts lead and Jones fired into the top corner on 43 minutes.

Airbus chief Andy Preece lavished praise on his side after they showed character in abundance to beat Afan Lido 5-4 on penalties.

For the majority of the match Airbus made all of the running, but the visiting side were constantly forced to deal with cruel setbacks.

The first of those came as early as the 12th minute when Lido converted a penalty through Andy Hill.

Airbus duly rallied and goals from Mark and Gavin Cadwallader turned the game on its head before the interval.

Preece's side controlled the second half but disaster struck as Liam Thomas found a leveller in the 91st minute of the match to force extra-time.

Airbus threatened and hit the woodwork during the additional 30 minutes, although they could not find that elusive winner and penalty kicks ensued.

With Josh Roberts missing the first Airbus spot-kick, the visitors had to come from behind, but Niki-Lee Bulmer produced two smart saves before Gavin Cadwallader fired home the winner.

"We had a couple of tests and came through them really well," declared Preece. "We showed great character to come back from a goal down, the late equaliser and missing our first penalty.

"You wonder whether heads might go down and whether it might be our day, it would have been easy to fold.

"We didn't though and now we are through to the quarter-finals."

A home tie against Carmarthen is Airbus's reward for victory over Afan Lido, the clash over the weekend of February 25-27 presenting the Wingmakers with a real chance to reach the semi-finals.

"It is a home draw and that is all you can ask," admitted Preece who has signed attacking midfielder Luke Mack and released defender Mark Allen by mutual consent ahead of tomorrow evening’s transfer deadline.

"A home match gives us a chance to get through but it will be tough.

"Carmarthen will be pretty pleased to have avoided the bigger teams as well."

Carmarthen needed extra-time to defeat Welsh League outfit AFC Porth 3-1.

The Old Gold fell behind to a Robbie Thomas strike, but Nick Harrahy scored to force an additional 30 minutes.

During extra-time, Tim Hicks scored from the spot and Julian Alsop rounded off the victory.

Buckley Town could not be faulted for their endeavour as they battled back from two-goals down to take Bala to extra-time before eventually losing 4-2.

Lee Hunt converted a dubious penalty and Chris Mason fired home from close range as Bala took control of the contest.

However, Gareth Thomas’ side did not roll over and fought their way back into the contest, Anthony Williams persistence seeing him make the most of some slack defending and Mike Burke netting from the spot.

Burke and Anthony Lipson went close to snatching a winner for Buckley, but extra-time ensued, in which Hunt completed his hat-trick for Colin Caton’s men.

“We did have a bit of an indifferent start and we were punished for some poor defending,” explained Thomas.

“What made me quite proud though was the fact we did not buckle and deservedly reduced the arrears through Anthony Williams.

“We matched our visitors for the vast majority of the second half and got our just rewards in the 74th minute when we were awarded a stone wall penalty.

“We were left kicking ourselves in the end as we had chances to seal the tie with Burke and Anthony Lipson going agonisingly close.

“Before we could get to grips with the extra time period Lee Hunt snatched two goals and the rest is now history.”

Bala entertain Llanelli in the next round after Andy Legg’s side beat 10-man Rhyl 5-4 on penalties after the game finished 3-3 after extra-time.

Tom Rowlands and Ryan Williams scored for Rhyl in normal time with Rhys Griffiths and Stuart Jones responding for Llanelli, while Williams and Chris Venables netted in the additional 30 minutes.

Shaun Dowling was the unlucky man as he saw his penalty saved by Llanelli goalkeeper Craig Richards.
