A CONWY pub with a long-running history has re-opened in a unique deal between four rival breweries.
The Albion, on Upper Gate Street, re-opened after 18 months, with breweries from across North Wales taking part.
Four breweries now run the pub, including the Purple Moose Brewery, The Great Orme Brewery, Conwy Brewery and the Nant Brewery.
Each of the breweries will have a dedicated tap on the bar, while two other pumps will be reserved for a guest ale and a real cider.
Between them, the brewers are planning on bringing the pub back to how it might have looked in the 1920’s, including preserving its Art Deco and Art Nouveau architecture.
The pub does not contain a jukebox, television set or pool table, and the owners hope this will encourage drinkers to engage in conversation rather than the distractions of modern pubs.
Rather than trivia machines or fruit machines, the pub allows drinkers to challenge one another to board-games such as Scrabble or Monopoly.
Jonathan Hughes, director at the Great Orme Brewery, Glan Conwy, said: “It’s steeped in history and it’s regarded as one of the best pubs of its type in the UK.”
He added: “As the four brewers we set the scene, but the script is written by the people who drink there.”
Dewi Arfon, director of Bragdy’r Nant Brewery, Llanrwst, said re-opening the pub was a “wonderful idea”.
He added: “We are different because of things we don’t have as well as things we do have, and what we do have is real and spaces for people to sit and chat while drinking.”
Stuart Chapman-Edwards, landlord of the Albion, said: “It’s a fantastic project. I knew from the start it was going to be a winner. And it’s unique - there’s nothing else like it.”
