RUGBY fever hit the area last weekend as the Six Nations tournament got underway.
Delighted rugby fans from Anglesey and Gwynedd saw Wales kick off their campaign with a breathless 23-21 win over Ireland.
With many supporters going out to pubs and clubs to show their support, local businesses saw the effect that on-pitch success can bring to them.
Caernarfon Rugby Club was one place where fans could come together to sample the lively atmosphere.
Myfyr Jones of Caernarfon RFC said: “It was very good in here. We had an under 13’s side from Dublin playing against our under 13’s side and Pwllheli’s, so there was strong Irish representation here for the Wales game.
“They brought a good atmosphere, there was a lot of singing. We had around 80 people here to watch the game which is a decent turnout for us, especially on a Sunday. On the whole it was a good afternoon for the club.”
Aaron Gethin, barman for Y Glob in Bangor sees the Six Nations as a big boost for the pub.
He said: “We were packed here on Sunday, as we always are with the Six Nations.
“The more Wales win the more people come along, so we hope to see them continue like this!”
Another reason for locals to cheer Wales on was the appearance of Anglesey’s George North.
The former Ysgol Uwchradd Bodedern pupil played a starring role, setting up one try and scoring another to help secure victory for Wales.
Myfyr Jones said: “It was great to see George North play so well. With performances like that he’s doing the area proud.”
With Wales preparing for their clash against Scotland this weekend, businesses will hope for more of the same from George and co.
Myfyr Jones added: “If they win on Sunday, people will start to talk about the grand slam. And with the next match after that on a Saturday afternoon against England, we should draw in quite a crowd!”
