RHYL HEARTS 2
LLANNEFYDD 2
LLANNEFYDD paid for a second half of missed chances as they dropped two points at Rhyl Hearts.
The long-time Vale of Clwyd and Conwy League Division One leaders slipped to second in the table on the back of the draw, with Betws-yn-Rhos taking over pole position following a comfortable 5-2 home win over West Shore.
The destination of the championship will be decided on March 10 when Llannefydd go to Betws-yn-Rhos for their last match.
Llan got off to a bad start, conceding after just two minutes, with Kieran Kendrick netting.
Llannefydd weren’t behind for long and when Kevin Rickard was fouled in the box, Ally Stubbs converted the resulting penalty.
Rickard and Sam Jones soon had good chances to score, but both failed to hit the target.
However, Llan were in front before the interval after a cross from the right side found Gwion Owen at the far post and his effort was deflected in by a home defender.
Llannefydd then proceeded to dominate the second half, but they had no luck in front of goal.
Kevin Rickard missed the best chance when firing straight at the keeper from 10 yards after good play from Ed Jones.
After several other chances, Llan were punished when Hearts scored from their only attack of the second half.
With just nine minutes left, Kendrick bagged his second.
Gwion Owen was unlucky late on when a Hearts defender cleared his shot off the line, while Floyd Richards was voted man of the match for Llan.
