CAMPAIGNERS opposed to Conwy’s controversial Local Development Plan (LDP) will join forces when they picket a meeting of the full council.
Residents opposed to housing sites in Dwygyfylchi and on Bodafon Fields and Queens Road in Llandudno will be among those expressing their anger ahead of Thursday’s meeting, which will see the draft version go before the full council.
Campaigners from Dwygyfylchi have become the latest to express their outrage.
Anne McCaffrey, who lives in the village, criticised the council’s handling of the plans, saying that her objections have not been adequately dealt with.
“I will not let this go,” she said.
“I have lived in this village for 35 years and it’s tragic.
“We’re being given houses which are not wanted and there’s no evidence to suggest they are needed.”
The LDP suggests four sites in Dwygyfylchi for a mixture of housing and commercial buildings, despite numerous objections.
There have been several petitions in the village against the proposed sites, all of which will be on green space and one of which includes the village football field.
Carys Jones, who organised a petition signed by 900 residents in 2009, called the plans “ridiculous”.
“I will certainly be there on Thursday and I would urge other people to do the same,” she said.
“You’re talking about losing the identity of the village.”
Campaigners from Llandudno have also vowed to take their protests to the meeting.
Ruby Williams of the Bodafon Fields Preservation Association said supporters would be staging a demonstration outside the council headquarters while residents against proposed housing on Queens Road will also attend Thursday’s meeting.
Aberconwy AM and Llandudno Cllr Janet Finch-Saunders has also called on residents to raise their objections to the plan.
“I urge all residents to voice their concerns and for councillors to respond to their thoughts and opinions,” she said.
A Conwy Council spokesman declined to comment on individual site cases ahead of Thursday’s meeting.
