A DENBIGH stunner has made it into the big time after being crowned Miss Galaxy 2014.
Rachael Tate, 24, won her new title at one of the biggest pageants in the world held in Orlando, USA, at the beginning of August.
Rachael said: “I could not believe it when they said I had won.
“It’s amazing, I am just from a small town like Denbigh.
“I have had so much support from my little town, thank you to all those people who helped me.”
Rachael attended St Brigid’s School and Denbigh High sixth form, before obtaining her law degree at Aberystwyth University.
She works as a families’ caseworker specialising in children with disabilities and in 2012 was elected as the youngest ever member of Denbigh Town Council.
Rachael said: “This is the biggest pageant I’ve been in, there were girls there from all over the world.
“The other type of pageants on this level are Miss World and Miss Earth.
“In these competitions you have to be a good role model and person, I want to help and inspire others in the community to do what they want to do.”
The week long event saw Rachael compete in several rounds including, fashion, swimwear, photogenic and interview.
The judges asked her about her involvement with the town council and her community work which Rachael thinks was key to her success in the pageant.
She said: “I don’t think it’s about being the prettiest girl there though everyone is so beautiful, but I think it’s the community work and the time and effort you put into things.
“I think that showed in my interview.
“You have to show you can talk the talk as well as walk the walk.”
Rachael was crowned Miss Denbighshire in 2009 and went onto become Miss Galaxy European in 2011 competing against 73 other girls, to become only the second Welsh woman to win the title in the competition’s history.
Also Rachael won Miss Galaxy Wales in March this year, as she missed out on the crown when previously competed.
Since winning Miss Galaxy Wales she has done 64 appearances for different charities and events including Denbigh Carnival, Denbigh’s Got Talent, bag backing to climbing up Snowdon.
She said: “I’m now going to take a year out to help local and national charities and do some commercial modelling.
“I’d also like to thank thank Lock Stock, my original sponsors who helped me get through the Welsh rounds.”
