A CORWEN businesswoman is celebrating after success at the 2013 ‘Great Taste Awards’.
Following scrutiny from 400 judges, Sarah Hughes from ‘Eat my Flowers’ achieved a two-star award for her edible violas, at the Great Taste Awards, one of the largest food award schemes in the World.
Judges are required to taste products which are unlabelled, and mark them according to taste. Then the item can receive either a one, two, or three star award, so to receive such a high honour was quite a shock.
“I can’t believe we received a two star award in our first year of entering the competition. The awards are so prestigious and we will be proud to display it on our products” she said.
The winning edible violas drew some rave reviews from the judges at the event, who were particularly impressed with the “stunning appearance and beautiful crispness of the flower”, while also enjoying the flowers “complex flavours”.
Sarah started the business in 2011 and has already gained some notoriety for her work. She currently supplies flowers to a number of luxury hotels in London, as well as Royal cake maker Fiona Cairns.
Her lollipop’s are also renowned, currently selling at high-end retail shop, Harrods.
