A FORMAL consultation has begun regarding the proposed closure of two primary schools.
Denbighshire County Council has already approved the commencement of a formal consultation regarding a proposal to close Ysgol Clocaenog and Ysgol Cyffylliog on August 31, 2014 and establish a new area school, initially to be located on the existing sites.
The formal consultation started on Monday, September 9 and will be on until October 18.
But the consultation over the future of faith school Ysgol Llanbedr has been delayed.
Discussions with the Church in Wales Education Diocesan representatives will take place shortly to consider the long term implications for the three faith primary schools in the Ruthin area, namely Ysgol Llanbedr, Ysgol Llanfair DC and Ysgol Borthyn, which will be reported to elected members in October.
Clwyd West AM, Darren Millar said: “Ysgol Llanbedr is the heart of the local community and is a fantastic school. Concerned parents, teachers and governors all oppose the proposal to close the school and I am therefore extremely pleased that the council has listened to their views and agreed to delay the consultation to enable discussions with the Church in Wales Education Diocesan representatives to take place.
“All three schools under review have a distinctive and valued ethos as Church schools and to lose them would be devastating.”
A Denbighshire County Council spokesman said: “The Church in Wales are important partners in the provision of education and the need to hold further discussions to ensure that there is a clear understanding of their long term vision for education in the area will assist our future planning.”
Parent and guardian ‘drop-in’ sessions have been arranged for Ysgol Cyffylliog on Tuesday, September 24 between 5pm and 7pm at the school.
Ysgol Clocaenog’s drop in session will be on Wednesday, September 25 between 5pm and 7pm at Clocaenog Church Hall.
During the drop-in session parents are welcome to attend to discuss issues that they may have regarding the proposal with council officers on a one-to-one basis.
