A FARMER’S daughter from Ruthin is the new interior designer on a hit daytime TV show.

Leah Hughes has worked her way up to become the interior designer for ITV’s Peter Andre’s 60 Minute Makeover.

Leah travelled across the UK to help families with presenter Peter Andre and the show is currently being aired.

She said: “I have seen how such shows 'makeovers' can substantially impact to bring change and positivity to peoples lives.

“I have had some beautiful messages from contributors, whom identity that I have successfully captured their personal style, and I’m grateful to the show it’s given them a much needed positive experience, to help kick start change to turn things around.

“For the first days filming I felt excited and nervous, but team quickly welcomed me in. I have felt very privileged to be a part of of the show, and to be let into peoples homes and and lives. Although we are only there for a day,  our contribution is long lasting, visibly and emotionally as the show makes memories.

Leah has also worked as the art director for the Valleys MTV show and co-presented S4C’s Hotels of the World, a TV show looking at 32 hotels across the world including Athens, Morroco and Finland.

You may have also seen Leah as a designer for children’s makeover programme ‘Hip or Skip?’.

Lead said: “There is so much crew on set; caterers, security, and lets not forget Peters winnebago, but the biggest surprise for me was to discover that everything you see in the rooms are donated by generous suppliers.

“It is a well oiled machine, it is all very well planned.”

Leah went to Ysgol Brynhyfryd before studying 3D design at Leeds Metropolitan University.

She is also a concept designer for the government’s Building Schools for the Future (BSF) programme, has set up her own interior design consultancy, Leah Interiors, and has recently completed a PGCE qualification lecturing Interior Design at the Atrium University Cardiff.

Leah said: “In every show, I’ve been keen to source some Welsh products, I’ve loved talking about them and ITV have been happy to let me do so, and I'm proud to subtly be able to showcase a bit of cool Welsh.

“The first day of filming is the first time I see the home and the family, the biggest challenge to ensure the design  it’s spot on for them.

“The room reveal is nerve racking, and all have gone well, and have been quite emotional. Peter has been great to work with, a delight, such a genuine and adorable guy.

“His endearing personality instantly warms people up and help them feel at ease on camera and he is always very complimentary.

“I would now have to admit, I’m his number one fan.”

The show has five designers and Leah will feature on today’s show at 2pm and again on December 2, December 9 and December 18.
