Cautious backing to policy reform

A RADICAL overhaul of the way Welsh farmers are paid under the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) has been cautiously welcomed by politicians and farming groups.

However, plans to to take a 15 per cent modulation are still proving to be highly controversial.

The Welsh Government announced new rules for the payments of farmers under European rules.

The changes will come into force from 2015 onwards.

The reforms will see new banding for farmers which will affect how much individual farmers will receive.
