Horseshoe Pass closed following crash

RESCUE efforts are ongoing on the Horseshoe Pass near Llangollen following a road crash today.

Police were called to the spot at 10.44 this morning.

One vehicle was reported to have left the road in the Pentredwr area.

Fire crews were called to the area at 11.04am.

Three crews were at the scene including crews from Llangollen, Ruthin and a rescue unit from Wrexham.

The fire crews were in the process of cutting a person out of the vehicle.

The road remains closed.

A Welsh Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called at 10.37am today, Tuesday April 8, to reports of a single-vehicle road traffic collision on the A542 Horseshoe Pass. 

"We sent a crew in an emergency ambulance and a Wales Air Ambulance to the scene, and a man in his 30s was airlifted to Wrexham Maelor Hospital.”

An eyewitness reports police and fire service are at present trying to rescue a driver from their vehicle having gone over the side of the Horseshoe Pass above Llangollen.

Responding to news that there has been another crash on the Horseshoe Pass, Llyr Gruffydd AM said:

“It’s only a matter of weeks since the last serious accident and calls were made then to improve safety on the pass. We urgently need to consider how best to minimise the dangers, whether it’s safety barriers or speed restrictions."
