A LOVING daughter ran the London marathon under four hours in memory of her mother.

Helen Davies, aged 30, from St Asaph, ran a marathon through the streets of London finishing within the top 29 per cent in 10,251st place.

Helen ran the marathon to raise money for St Kentigern’s Hospice where her mum, Ann Davies, was cared for while suffering from breast cancer 10 years ago.

Helen said: “Running the marathon was a very emotional experience and I am really pleased I kept running the whole way.

“I had a fantastic support crowd of close family and friends which lifted my spirits and made me smile when it was beginning to hurt.

“My sister even made me a banner for my fan club on the pavements so I could spot them.”

This was Helen’s first marathon.

She said: “The support from afar people that couldn’t be there, watched me on television and tracked my progress at home online was also huge help in keeping me legs moving.

“The atmosphere and support from the crowd was mind blowing.”

Helen finished in three hours and 54 minutes at an average speed of 6.7 mph.
She raised £2,500 for St Kentigern’s Hospice, based in St Asaph, which relies on
public donations for 80 per cent of its overall funding.

She said: “Running the marathon in memory of mum was a tribute to a courageous, inspirational woman who battled on and never let anything stand in her way, truly one in a million.

“She would have been so proud that we have raised £2,500 for the hospice but would be always trying to raise more.

“Generosity so far has been astounding so a huge sincere thank you to everyone who has donated to such a worthwhile cause.”

St Kentigern’s Hospice fundraising manager, Jackie Jeffrey said: “We are extremely grateful to Helen for running the London Marathon and all the training she put into it, as a runner myself I know it’s hard work and there’s a lot of training to do.
“She did really well and we are so grateful.”
