THE North Wales Fire and Rescue service has urged people to take extra care ahead of tomorrow's strike (Thursday).

The number of staff expected to participate is high, and this will result in a reduction in the resources available when it becomes enforced at 9am, which coincides with the beginning of the World Cup.

A North Wales Fire and Rescue spokesman said: "This strike will mean a reduction in the resources we have at our disposal, and as a consequence the Service will not be able to provide the same high level of response to fires and other emergencies.

"The priority will be to respond to life critical incidents."

Unlike the dispute in 2002/3, support from the military is no longer available to the service and they have stated that safety advice and guidance will be provided via the North Wales Fire and Rescue website, while their social media outlets on Facebook and Twitter will also be on hand to give advice on any situation.

The spokesman said: "If any member of the public needs to call us regarding a non-urgent matter during the period of industrial action then it would be helpful if they considered waiting until strike action ends to make that call."
