A SIX-year-old girl recovering from a life saving heart operation has inspired her community to raise money for the hospital that saved her.
Enfys Wyn Evans, from Ty Isaf, Llwyneinion, near Bala, was born with a heart defect and has suffered with hard of breathing until her latest operation earlier this year.
Her mum and dad, Christine and Einion Wyn Evans, have known since before Enfys was born that she would need to have a risky heart operation to help her live a normal life.
Einion, a dairy farmer and owner of Ty Isaf Caravan and Camping site in Bala, said:
“We were told there was going to be a problem with her heart before she was born.
“Doctors originally thought she was going to need three operations but thankfully she’s only had to have one. Her first operation was when she was10 months old which was at stage two and now she’s had the completion operation.
“She has recovered very well, doctors thought she would be in hospital for six to eight weeks but she was only there for eight nights.”
Enfys, who attends Ysgol Ffridd Y Llyn, Bala, had the operation in Alder Hey Children’s Hospital as her breathing became difficult during activities.
Einion said: “She was in the operation for six hours, it was very hard to wait around. There were risks involved as it is the heart but there were more risks if she didn’t have the operation. She was struggling to go up and down the stairs it became difficult for her to breath.
“She should be fine now, she won’t have to have more operations but will have regular check ups.”
The procedure is the third and final stage in the reconstruction of a single ventricle heart defect.
Since the operation the Evans family as well as friends and family have been trying to raise money for Alder Hey Children’s Hopsital.
Over May Bank Holiday they held a fundraising event at Ty Isaf Caravan and Camping Site, Bala raising more than £500.
The fun day included activities for children, tractor rides, tombala and raffle with all prizes donated by local people and businesses to help raise money.
Enfys who turned six in January a month before the operation has had plenty of fun raising money for the children’s hospital.
Einion added: “If you see her now you would never have thought she’s had a heart operation.
“The hospital and all the staff are marvellous at Alder Hey.
“We have raised money before after her first operation and wanted to help raise more for the children’s hospital. We’re hoping the total will be about £600.”
Christine and Einion wish to thank the community for all their donations.
