A DENBIGH grandmother has been left in bad health after council failures to repair her home.

94-year-old Grace Jones, who lives in sheltered accommodation run by Denbighshire County Council, has been left without a working boiler since November.

She has been trying to get it fixed since then but delays to the work have threatened her health.

The stress of the delays has caused Mrs Jones to suffer from eczema.
Her condition is preventing the ninety four year old from having an operation on her knee.

The airing cupboard in her bedroom has been flooded on several occasions after the boiler pipes burst.

Work crews have been scheduled to come and fix the problem, including last week when, after an hour and half of work, the workmen told that they could not fix it that day and would have to reschedule.

Mrs Jones said she found the whole situation very frustrating.

“They were supposed to come on Monday but they rang to say it would have to be later in the week as they needed a ladder.

“I have had to take everything out of the airing cupboard when it burst.
“I might be 94 but I'm still with it. I'm fed up; it's not on at my age. I'll not swear but I am very frustrated.

“A lot of older people would not have coped if they were more frail.

“I need a new boiler rather than go through all of this trouble again.”

Mrs Jones daughter, Valerie Barnett, also spoke of her frustration with the council.
She said: “It is very frustrating. In the past she has had to clean the stairs and landing because no one was doing it.

“The whole thing is causing her a lot of stress.”
Mrs Jones' county councillor, Colin Hughes, has reported the problems to the council.

He said: “I have reported this to the council. She’s 94 years old and she is a model tenant. We need to give these tenants the best service because that’s what they deserve. I am hoping for quick action on this as it needs urgent attention.”

A council spokesperson said: “A new boiler is being fitted tomorrow. The visit to fit the new boiler has been confirmed with both the tenant and the local councillor and they are both happy  with the arrangements.”
