FIVE fire crews are tackling a blaze at the derelict North Wales Hospital in Denbigh - with reports saying the structure may be in danger of collapsing.

Crews were called to a fire at the hospital site at 8.04am.

Five fire engines are in attendance.

A fire service spokesman said that aerial ladder platforms are being used to tackle the blaze and the building may be in danger of collapsing..

Only last week, a compulsory purchase order was served by Denbighshire Council on the current owners of the former North Wales Hospital site, the derelict Grade II* listed building in Denbigh.

The signs of progress on ownership of the site had led to calls for a development that  would benefit the town.
