YOUR candidates for Dwyfor Meirionnydd:

Liz Saville-Roberts (Plaid Cymru)

LIZ Saville Roberts is the Plaid Cymru candidate for the Dwyfor Meirionnydd seat at this year’s General Election.

She hopes to succeed long serving MP Elfyn Llwyd who will be stepping down after 22 years at Westminster.

Liz grew up in Eltham, London, and moved to Wales to live at the age of 18 when she went to Aberystwyth to study languages, where she began to learn Welsh.

Her husband Dewi comes from Tanygrisiau, and they’ve lived in Morfa Nefyn since 1993.

They have two daughters, Lowri and Lisa.

She has represented Morfa Nefyn and Edern in Gwynedd Council since 2004. She works in Welsh medium further education.

Neil Fairlamb (Conservative) 

BORN in 1949, Neil Fairlamb was educated at Colwyn Bay Grammar School.

He has studied at four universities - Aberystwyth, Bangor, Cambridge and Oxford - and has degrees in history, philosophy and theology.

He taught for 21 years at Dulwich College, London where one of his star pupils was Nigel Farage. He was an officer in the CCF and a lay reader in the Church of England.

He was ordained in 1993 in Southwark and worked in prison and hospital chaplaincy before becoming a parish priest in three areas of Wales -Aberystwyth, Merioneth and Beaumaris - and continues to work in the last-named parish where he cares for seven churches and their congregations.

He is a lifeboat chaplain and is a Welsh speaker.

He has published three books on Welsh history and is a qualified wine writer. He chairs The Grail Trust, a UK charity working for the education of disadvantaged children in South India.

He is married to Yvonne.

Mary Griffiths-Clarke (Labour)

MARY comes from a Welsh farming family and worked as a project manager for legal and economic government projects with budgets of up to £100m before setting up her own consultancy. 

She also makes films, writes and is a director of a law centre.

She is a passionate campaigner on rural issues, justice and equality and is dedicated to bringing rural voices to Parliament. She’s fighting for a better deal for farmers, small businesses, better pay, stronger infrastructure, public services and for thriving local communities.

Mary believes her previous experience will enable her to deliver tangible results. She is already delivering: taking Fairbourne Facing Change to Parliament, promoting local businesses through Small Business Saturday and holding regular surgery sessions to listen to local needs.

Mary has attended The House of Lords and has spoken in Parliament about keeping the NHS public, rural infrastructure, access to justice, business support, disability, domestic violence and rural food poverty. In June 2014 Mary was a panelist for The Peoples Parliament “After Capitalism” discussion. Mary is supported by the GMB union.

Steve Churchman (Liberal Democrats)

THE LIBERAL Democrat candidate Steve Churchman was born in Dagenham, Essex and has lived in Gwynedd for over fifteen years.

He is the county councillor for Dolbenmaen Ward in Gwynedd which he has represented continuously since 2004.

His earlier political experiences include over two terms as a London borough councillor totalling nine years.

Steve has served as a school governor almost continuously since 1987 serving numerous schools ranging from infant to secondary schools. Currently he is vice chairman at Ysgol Gynradd Garndolbenmaen, where he has been a governor since 2000.

He is employed full time as a county councillor and foster carer but until October 2014 he was the shopkeeper and subpostmaster too in Garndolbenmaen.

Christopher Gillibrand (UKIP) 

THE son of a trade union leader, Christopher Gillibrand graduated from Oxford with a degree in chemistry.

He also has an MBA from the University of Greenwich.

Widely travelled in Europe, he lived for ten years in Brussels and has direct experience of the EU at work.

By profession, he is a translator, running his own small business.

He has also worked in the chemical, pharmaceutical and energy sectors.

His hobby is book collecting.
