The friends and family of a keen farmer have remembered his life in a novel way.

Maldwyn Owen, who had motor neurone disease, died five years ago aged 50 before he had chance to tackle a planned project to lay hedges around his farm in Pandy Tudur.

The Plygu Gwrych Pandy Tudur group was set up the same year and carried out his plans for him as a token of their respect and remembrance.

Every year since then, the group has continued the tradition as a competition, laying hedges at a variety of locations across the area with this year’s event held in Ffordd y Graig, Denbigh.

Secretary Emrys Owen said: “Maldwyn was a busy man in the community, he was a very nice man.

“He always said he was going to lay a hedge round his farm but he didn’t get chance so we decided to do it in his memory.

“We thought it was going to be a one-off but the community enjoyed it so much we decided to start a society and do it as an annual thing.”

He admitted Mr Owen was a modest man so would probably have been “embarrassed but happy” to know that such an event still took place in his memory.
