3G, or not 3G?

That is the question over at Maes Tegid!

The community of Bala is a step closer to gaining a state of the art all-weather pitch - and the facility could be in place before the start of next season.

“We have probably been negotiating for two years,” said Bala’s chief executive Nigel Aykroyd.

The club started looking into the situation when the FAW put forward an idea - and finance - for all clubs in the Welsh Premier League to develop 3G facilities.

“It was impossible for Bala Town to do it without a partnership,” added Aykroyd.

“We had to get other people involved to form a partnership.”

Therefore, last Friday Bala Town’s management committee held an open meeting in the Plas Coch with local societies, clubs and schools on the issue of gaining a 3G facility at the ground. On the night, over 50 people were in attendance to solely discuss the possibility of installing such a surface at Maes Tegid.

The meeting turned out to be a great success with members of Gwynedd Council’s education and leisure departments, Bala Rugby Club, Bala Sports and Recreation Association, Bala Vets Football Club, Bala Juniors Football Club, Bala Town FC’s Academy, Ysgol y Berwyn and Llanuwchllyn Football Club all pledging their support towards the application.

“We have been able to get an agreement at the end of the day,” said Aykroyd.

“It’s a very community-based project.

“It’s not just a case of Bala Town playing on a 3G facility."
