A MAN of 93 has been warned today that he will spend the rest of his days in prison.

Sex pest Jack Beales was told by a judge he had targeted a little girl and displayed quite depraved behaviour and thinking.

He was not being held to account for what he had done as a young man but was in his late 60s and late 70s when he targeted the victim, said Judge Rhys Rowlands.

“Thankfully, in my experience, it makes this case very, very rare,” he said.

Beales was remanded in custody to be sentenced next week but he was warned to expect a significant sentence.

“Sadly, you ought to be prepared to spend the rest of your time in prison.

“I doubt very much if you will be released unless as an act of clemency by the Home Secretary,” the judge said.

Mold Crown Court heard how the victim, now a woman in her 30s, was subjected to years of horrific sexual abuse including rape as a child, starting when she was just six.

Years later she plucked up the courage to confront her attacker.

The victim went to Beales’ home said that she had a secret for many years which had been making her ill – but of course Jack Beales knew all about that, she explained..

He was a paedophile, who had raped her and subjected her to various sexual indignities for about nine to ten years.

She was terrified of him as a child – he had a hold over her and had told her she would go to jail if it ever came out.

Beales, then 92, admitted in front of his wife and the victim’s mother that he had groped her as a child and said that he had got her to kiss his private parts – but he denied rape.

He later told how “that was what men did” and claimed that he was “giving her pleasure”.

Beales who lived in Graianrhyd area between Mold and Ruthin but after being kicked out of the family home lived in John Street, Rhyl, admitted in indecency with a child and indecent assault charges to cover a large number of incidents.

He denied five charges of rape and six other sexual offences when he was aged between 67 and 77 but was unanimously convicted by the jury.

The victim had been too frightened to tell anyone what was happening to her – and described the pain of when she was raped as a little girl as excruciating.

She “remembered it like yesterday” and did not understand what was happening.
At one stage he told her it was “just practise” for when she had a boyfriend and bizarrely said he knew she was enjoying what he was doing to her.

Prosecuting barrister Anna Pope said Beales was manipulative and would rape and sexually abuse the girl when they were alone.

It all came out last August.

The victim told the jury that she had no option but to confront him.

She suffered depression, anxiety and had suicidal thoughts and said it was “now or never” in view of his advanced age.

Unless she did something about it she would never be able to move on with her life, she explained.

She took a friend and her mother, who knew nothing about it, to his home and told how she had a secret which had been making her ill.

The woman told him: “You know what the secret is Jack” in front of his wife.

When told he was a paedophile he was initially taken aback, and laughed, but then became aggressive, shouted and said it was a load of rubbish.

She started to cry and he said she was lying and asked her why she had “brought it up now?”

But she said she could not live with it any more, making her life Hell.

He then said he had fondled her that he had got her to touch him, adding “I was giving her pleasure.”

Beales later said he could not understand why she was bringing it up now “because I did it so long ago.”

Interviewed in Mold community hospital he laughed at some of the allegations, described them as “bunkum” and made no comment replies when police officers put the details of the horrific complaints to him.

At one point he was asked what he found amusing and he said he could chuckle if he wanted.

Beales did not give evidence in his own defence.

Defending barrister Andrew Green said his client was a man of no previous convictions who accepted some acts had taken place but he denied other allegations including all the rapes.
