A COMMUNITY is in shock after the death of a man in a chainsaw accident on a Llandyrnog farm.

The body of the man, named locally as father-of-three Aled Jones, aged in his forties, of Peniel, was discovered in a field in Llandyrnog on Wednesday.

Llanrhaeder county councillor Joe Welch said: "The whole community has been shaken up this.

"It is absolutely devastating. My thoughts and condolences are with Mr Jones' family at this time."

A spokesperson for North Wales Police said: “North Wales Police were on Wednesday, January 14, alerted to the death of a man who had been found in a field in the Llandyrnog area of Denbigh.

“Officers attended and his next of kin were informed.

“Police are not treating the death as suspicious and the matter has been referred to the Health and Safety Executive.

“The coroner has been informed.”

A spokesman for the Health and Safety Executive said: "A joint investigation with North Wales Police has been opened.

"The police are taking the lead on this as this was a fatal incident.

"We believe that a chainsaw was involved."

A spokesman for the FUW said: “News of his death was a big shock to everyone, and it highlights the dangers that farmers face when carrying out their day-to-day jobs.

“Aled was highly regarded as a breeder of pedigree Texel sheep, and our thoughts go out to his wife and family.”
