A COUPLE have transformed their lounge into a log cabin so they can enjoy their very own Little House on the Prairie with the help of a top timber firm from North Wales.

Peter Szwajgier and his fiancée Alicja Druzkowska, from Irthlingborough, near Wellingborough in Northamptonshire, have clad the inside of their living room to give them a real taste of the wild frontier.

Award-winning Clifford Jones Timber of Ruthin supplied the rustic raw material to give the lounge in the couple's neat semi-detached home an authentic make-over.

Now 40-year-old Peter says his most ambitious DIY project to date has transformed the extension from a traditional lounge into a cosy music room with a definite wild frontier look where he and his family can enjoy jam sessions with their friends.

Peter, who works as a lorry driver for a firm in Milton Keynes, says creating the log-clad room was originally the idea of 38-year-old Alicja who works as a fitness instructor.

“She always dreamt of building a log cabin on our own plot of land somewhere, but it’s not always easy to find the right land and then get permission to build on it,” he said.

“When we bought our three-bedroom house last October we decided we could use the extension to create our own version of a log cabin in just one room.”

Clifford Jones Timber is the UK’s largest manufacturer of wooden fence posts and processes more than 100,000 tons of timber from UK forests every year with products that include laminated timber for the building and leisure industries, logs and pellets for biomass heating and even cat litter and horse bedding – they pride themselves on using everything that comes through the gates.

Alan Jones, of Llwyn Einion, near Rhos, company chairman and the son of the founder of Clifford Jones Timber, said: “This was one of the more unusual orders we have received, but we are used to supplying a variety of different customers.

“We send fence posts to the Falkland Islands, lamp posts to Center Parcs and special logs to a chain of pizza shops, but this was definitely a first.

“We were happy to help out though and we’re delighted that Peter and Alicja are happy with the result.”

Peter and Alicja, who got engaged about a year ago and have two children, son Dominik, 11, and seven-year-old daughter Oliwia, now host regular musical gatherings for their friends in their new wooden wonderland.

“We’re both keen on music and when I was younger I played in bands,” said Peter.

“In our new room we have a piano and drum kit and when our friends come round we gather around the wood burner to have a quiet drink and a little jam session.

“When we walk into the log-walled room we’re in our own little world which looks a bit like the cabin in the TV series Little House on the Prairie.”
