Singer Charlotte Church has pulled out of an event highlighting the plight of refugees.

She was due to sing and read items at the event entitled “Reflections in Words and Music” in St Asaph Cathedral on July 7 which is being organised by the Colwyn Bay Group of Amnesty. She has cited “personal reasons” for her withdrawal.

Among those taking part are poet Mererid Hopwood, the duet Eleni, Cor Iau Cytgan Clwyd and the choirs of Ysgolion Llanddulas and Cystennin. Kate Allen, director of Amnesty UK will be attending.

There will also be an exhibition of photographs called “I Welcome: Amnesty International and Magnum Photographs” depicting 70 years of photographic coverage of refugees by the world-renowned agency.

The ecathedral will be open from 6pm for people to view the exhibition before the presentation starts at 7pm. Admission is free but donations will be received.
