A mum from Denbigh says she couldn’t be more proud after her daughter bagged a spot on ITV’s Love Island.

Former Ysgol Twm o’r Nant and Ysgol Glan Clwyd pupil Amber Davies, 20, is appearing on the dating reality TV show which began on Monday night.

Amber is a singer and dancer who has worked on cruise ships and in bars in London and also won Unawd Cerdd Dant competition at the 2006 Urdd Eisteddfod in Ruthin.

Mum Susan Davies, 49, said: “She’s my little one, I can’t believe she’s actually gone and is going on TV.

“It’s a big deal, about 60,000 applied to go on it. She loved watching it last year and said she’d apply for it and she’s got in, it’s incredible,

“She’s gone on to find love, it’s what she wants. She was really excited before she left. We are so proud of her just getting on really. She lives in London now, recently she worked for six months on a cruise ship as a singer and came back in February.

“She flew out a week last Saturday and we’ve got no contact with her so we’ll have to watch on the telly to find out what she’s up to.

“My other daughter is in London has been in Les Miserables and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang; we’re very blessed to have two talented daughters.”

Amber told ITV: “I think I’m very down to earth. I have been brought up so well. I don’t cause trouble for no reason. I’m not fake, I’m very real and that’s what all my friends like about me. I’m only 20 but I’m so ready to find someone that I can have fun with. If it turns into a relationship then great. I’m always so busy and I think this is a perfect opportunity for me to meet new people and get on with them and have a laugh. I work, work, work and guys ask me on a date and I think to myself ‘well, even if it goes well, when can I schedule in the next date?’ I over think a lot, so usually avoid it and just focus on work.

“Whoever has signed up for this show wants to find love so hopefully I’ll find someone in there that’s looking for what I’m looking for.”

This year Love Island features a former member of Blazin Squad, a former Miss Edinburgh and Scotland lacrosse player Camilla Thurlow, who was once romantically linked to Prince Harry.
