A youth group that’s going from strength to strength has been given a boost.

Cynwyd Youth Association has received a £500 donation from Ifor Williams Trailers, who have a factory in the village near Corwen.

The organisation was officially established last summer and now meets twice weekly on the artificial turf playground next to the village school, Ysgol Bro Dyfrdwy.

Up to 30 children and young people aged between six and 17 attend and they’re now hoping to attract more girls to come along.

The youngsters will be involved in the decision on what the money is spent on.

Volunteer Nia Gwynfor said: “Getting money from Ifor Williams Trailers is incredibly important for something community-based like this. There is a lot of enthusiasm here and the older ones act as role models for the younger members, which is important. As well as doing the activities, they are learning social skills as well.”

Among the regulars at the youth group is Sion Tyler Lawrence, eight, whose father is a technician in the sales department of Ifor Williams Trailers in Corwen. He said: “I like coming here and playing with my friends. I’ve made a lot of new friends here. It’s a lot of fun.”
