EXCITED children dressed at their favourite characters to mark World Book Day.

Schools across Denbighshire and Conwy donned superhero costumes, dressed as Harry Potter, The Cat in the Hat, the Gruffalo and more to celebrate the yearly event.

Many schools had been forced to postpone their activities due to the wintry weather. Others decided to celebrate the event a week later as the day had fallen on St David's Day.

Pupils at St George Church in Wales School, Abergele, was among the schools dressing up at their favourite storybook characters and little ones at the Ladybirds class, as well as the rest of the school at Ysgol Glan Gele, wore bright colours and were all smiles as they posed for photos.

At Ysgol Emrys ap Iwan, pupils were involved in writing workshops and were fortunate to receive a visit from Canadian author Elizabeth Duncan who gave a talk about her books.

A spokesperson for the school said: " The pupils were also involved in their Gwrych Castle writing project workshop. The pupils were encouraged with their reading and entered competitions to design a book token."

Also getting in on the action was St Asaph VP infant school, who held their celebrations today (Friday), as well as Ysgol y Foryd and Maes Owen in Kinmel Bay.
