STUDENTS at the soon to be closed Denbigh College are having to buy their lunch from vending machines.

The Free Press understands that a member of staff has left the college canteen for another job and has not been replaced, leaving the canteen without supervision.

This follows the controversial announcement that Denbigh Community College is to close at the end of the academic year, which was met with strong opposition by the community through a petition that received more than 2,000 signatures.

Students on site could now be forced to go without adequate meals for their remaining weeks at the college.

A spokesperson from Grwp Llandrillo Menai said: “Caffi'r Coleg at the Denbigh campus is run by an external company who rents the space from Grŵp Llandrillo Menai. The cafe staff are not employed by the Grŵp.

"We are currently looking at internal, short-term options to provide food to staff and students until the end of the academic term.

“In the meantime, vending machines are operating in the campus for anyone needing refreshments."
