A SPECIAL footballing fundraiser will take place in the Vale of Clwyd at the end of this month.

Trefnant will be the setting for a past versus present Summer League charity reunion contest on Saturday, June 30.

The worthwhile venture will be raising money for the Children With Cancer charity and as well as the football match, a whole host of other fundraising events will be lined-up on the day.

"It is hoped that this will become an annual event which grows bigger each year," said Martin Fearnley, who along with Nathan Pope and John Roberts is busy organising the day.

Since 1988, Children With Cancer has raised over £220 million to help the fight against childhood cancer.

Research, improved treatments and support for children with cancer and their families are still much needed.

Every week in the UK, more than 70 children and young people are diagnosed with cancer and every year, Children With Cancer invests more than £4 million in new research across the full range of childhood cancers.

Willing players of all ages are invited to participate in the match at Trefnant later this month, which will see mixed age group teams on the day.

Any match officials, coaching staff, enthusiastic supporters and sponsors are also invited to get in touch to support this venture.

The game on June 30 will kick-off at 5.30pm, with players / coaching staff asked to meet at 4.30pm.

Post-match refreshments, a buffet and entertainment will be laid on in the Trefnant pub, which will commence at 8pm.

In addition to the charity game, further fundraisers over the course of the day will include a penalty prize, best fancy dress, a charity karaoke sing-off and a raffle / auction.
