A SCHEME to encourage children to develop a positive mindset towards community participation will be enrolled ahead of the school summer holidays.

This month, the South Denbighshire Community Partnership (SDCP), a charity based in Corwen, will arrange eight activities for children in the Edeyrnion area which they will be able to access after completing organised volunteer sessions such as community tidy ups, litter picking and other volunteering opportunities.

The structure, called the Community Togetherness Points Scheme, will enable children to earn points that can be used to register to outdoor activities including bushcraft skills sessions, high ropes, white water rafting, raft building, ‘messy play’ sessions, and outdoor and indoor sports.

The scheme will be carried out on behalf of Alex Roberts, from Corwen, who raised £1,415 at last year’s Ironman Wales through support from the Corwen community and its businesses, which he has now donated to the SDCP after seeing how his own daughter benefitted from the group’s initiatives.

Sally Lloyd Davies, community engagement and development manager for the SDCP, said: “I was overwhelmed when Alex approached me about wanting to raise money towards providing school holiday activities for the younger members of the community.

“I believe the activities that will be on offer along with the community together points scheme will build stronger community relationships and help provide some much-needed activities for children during the school holidays.”
