LAST week, Ruthin gathered to celebrate all that the town and its people have to offer with a mosaic of art, sounds, colour and local life.

Ruthin Festival’s nine-day programme of culture and community celebrations saw concerts, a poetry session, a carnival, local gigs, history tours, quizzes and a Shakespeare production.

Organisations from across the town, including Ruthin Town Council, Menter Iaith, Tesco, Swayne Johnson, Ruthin Rotary, Henllys, Ruthin Air Cadets and volunteers offered their services during the week. Denbighshire County Council and North Wales Police also provided their organisational expertise.

Christine Ellis, chair of Ruthin Festival, said: “On behalf of the festival committee, I would like to thank everyone who has made this year’s nine-day event such a success.

“The highlight of the week was as always the Top of Town event last Saturday.

“We have also, of course, enjoyed welcoming our friends from Ruthin’s twinned town in Brittany, where the performance of their traditional pipe band – the Bagad – on Saturday was truly breath-taking.

“It was great to see so many people – without donations on the gate the Top of Town would not happen.

“We hope that everyone had a good day on the Top of Town and enjoyed the whole festival week, and we hope to see everyone again in 2019!”
