ATHLETES from across Wales descended on Bala for a series of all-terrain competitions at the Big Bala Bash last weekend.

Over 800 young athletes competed in the series of events that covered the terrain around Llyn Tegid.

On Saturday, the eight stage of the Welsh Triathlon’s 2018 Tristar Series saw talented young athletes aged 9-14 compete in the triathlon circuit, swimming, cycling and running a shorter route of Sunday's big event.

The Bala Team Relays followed on the day, as every member of the four-person teams belonging to established clubs taking part were required swam 300 metres before passing their timing chip to their team mate until all had completed the swim, to win the Welsh National Club Relay Championship.

The main event, the Bala Triathlon, saw 230 athletes line-up at Llyn Tegid's northern bank at 9.30am for a 1500m swim across the lake, followed by a 39km cycle along winding valley roads, before the final 10km run along the banks of Llyn Tegid to the finish at the northern bank.
