AS ARMED Forces Day was celebrated across the North Wales coast, honourable residents from a Towyn care home received a special visit to remember their time in service.

Residents at Church Manor Care Home, Towyn were visited by Craig Smallwood, a retired WWII solider from the Kings Regiment, and his wife, Stephanie on Saturday, June 30.

Mr Smallwood, from Towyn, attended the care home's Armed Forces Day party in full military uniform to meet a number of the care home's residents who had served Britain's military services during their lifetime.

These included Mr Smallwood's father, Keith Smallwood, 85, who served in the Army, Fred Wilkinson, 96, who served in the Royal Navy, Bill Stallwood, 96, who served 24 years in the RAF’s Ground Crew.

The gentlemen discussed their military service during the celebrations, enjoying the British bunting and party food.

Wendy Lawson, care assistant Church Manor, said: "Craig came in to speak to the residents and remember their military service.

"It is nice that they can be recognised. They appreciated the celebrations and loved talking to Craig for over an hour.

"We don't let them forget about how important their service is. Elderly residents can forget their history but we make sure this does not happen.

"It is important to continue to remember the sacrifices made by our soldiers, otherwise it will be forgotten by up-and-coming generations."
